After twenty-five years of shooting self-portraits dressed as Santa, I decided to take a new approach. Instead of involving Santa in a myriad of activities, I decided to incorporate him into famous paintings from the Renaissance through the modernist era. Of course, some images come instantly to mind: the Botticelli, the Rembrandt, the Michelangelo, but wait till you see the Gérôme, the Homer, the Rousseau. The art world will be Santa’s oyster—he is reaping its pearls from Caravaggio to Hopper. These are the most important works in art history. I do not want to defame this work, but rather pay homage to it.
